The cast is huddled on the floor, 12 post-its with future clues moving between them to form a timeline. Someone's long given up on the brainstorming, others are fully in on the action. Everyone is looking hot and goth.
But despite the outfits and acting that’s enough to kill a man, woman, or anybody else, this isn't a dress rehearsal; for the cast of Feast of Sin, the newest WILDe x EUC Murder Mystery, this level of heat is an average Sunday.
On February 20th, 18:15, you will get the chance to discover who the killer is for yourself. But for now, we are catching up with the star cast and getting the chance to learn more about their experience.
Without further ado, let's dive into the cast interview!
Q: What is the central mystery at the heart of the show?
Anna Gal’tsova (hi!), co-director and Lilith: Feast of Sin follows the Seven Deadly Sins, who are summoned to a dinner. There, Greed, The Devil’s favorite, suddenly dies - and the mystery is both who killed them and who the favorite sin is now. It’s funky, because every sin has a motivation that shapes the story, and it’s entirely driven by their nature. Sloth is lazy, Lust is horny, Pride is prideful, etc. - and it’s really at the heart of why each character does what they do in the show.
Q: What should the audience expect from this MM's plot?
Arnav Tripathi, co-director and The Devil: The audience should expect a lot of drama: a murder in Hell has just taken place, and no one knows what’s happening! They should expect crazy family dynamics, a lot of comedy, a lot of different points of view taking place… just a fun & interactive journey!
(Ed. note: No, incest will not be happening.
Yes, I do have a good reason to mention that.)
Q: What about this Murder Mystery is different from the previous ones we've done at WILDe?
Olena “El” Navrotska, Lust: This Murder Mystery is very well-thought-through. We started working on the scenes & clues very early on in the process in order for the production to be of good quality in the end. Also, the plot is very fleshed out, and even though there is only one murderer in the end, every single character is involved in the story that leads to murder. So, it would be very interesting to uncover and experience for yourself!
Q: How are you experiencing the energy of the show? What's the general vibe for you?
Rhiannon Dragomir, Wrath: One word that came to mind is “kinky”, I think the reason why is explicit enough. I also think of it as very dynamic, because all the characters are involved in the plot, and there are many stages to the murder & the entire plan. There is a lot of tea to be spilled, a lot of emotions & a lot of beef between the characters, which is very interesting!
(Ed. note: Tea will, in fact, be spilled. Look out for the teapot scene!)
Q: What elements of the show are you actively working on now? How's your experience been so far?
Ana Clara Martins, Envy: Currently, we’re focusing on working on the scenes, getting all the lines correctly and just learning to embody our characters (physicality & tone of voice) better. It’s been a wonderful experience, both directors are incredible in their own departments, the cast is amazing, and we work super well together! It’s a very interesting MM because the characters are very well-known ideas, so exploring them in new & interesting ways is very fun.
Q: Which moment has been most memorable or exciting for you during rehearsals?
Nic Treczoks, Sloth: The joke answer to this is when I fell down Bettie’s (Greed’s) stairs at rehearsal! (laughs) Half a staircase couldn’t get rid of me, just like Greed couldn’t get rid of Sloth. We had a beautiful relationship-building hangout (meeting, whatever) after. And - you can see if the tumble was revenge or something premeditated at the MM!
(Ed. note: No Nics were hurt during this rehearsal is what I’m legally obligated to say.)
Q: What is the cast’s energy? How does it feel to act alongside them?
Bettie van Wegen, Greed (RIP): It’s structured chaos with Anna, the director, being very organized, effective & very knowledgeable. That motivates me and it really helps! It also helps build a very open & encouraging atmosphere. It’s super inclusive and accepting, we take the project seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Queer, nerdy, silly, freaks being freaks, super comfortable and open and excited - we all put in a lot of effort and you can really tell!
Q: What's the most interesting part about not having a script?
Kamila Gerasimiuk, Gluttony: I think it would be how I interact with other people and characters. In scripted acting, I sometimes feel like I focus too much on cues & where to say my line, rather than actually trying to notice the other person’s character & their goals/motivations/emotions - all while embodying my own character. But here, I can listen to the other person and actively answer to their mood & choice of words!
Q: What’s it like to perform in a Murder Mystery as an improv actor?
Ben Bauerdick, Pride: Honestly, it’s quite fun! The actors have a lot of agency in what they do & their preferred type of intensity. I like to be a little bit more silly with it, and I think this is a great way to express the character as an actor. There’s a hint of “what’s gonna happen?!”, but also a hint of “it’s improv!”. So there’s a certain meta to a Murder Mystery, and you get to make a lot of fun choices. And I do enjoy it!
The Feast of Sin will hit the stage in EUC on February 20th, 18:15. Excited to meet these sexy devils in person? Book the date now & stay tuned for most exciting announcements!
